Mahjong is the latest craze to hit the metro. Boutiques, wineries and even event spaces are hosting lessons and open play for the Chinese tile game. It's now a new American pastime.

"Mahjong is just this new craze," exclaimed certified Mahjong instructor Emily Levine. She teaches Mahjong classes in Overland Park every few weeks. "It's been around for years. It came over [to the US] in the 1920s and it became very popular. And now it's just become this wonderful game to connect with your friends and family."

Players will take turns flipping tiles to create matching pairs and sets, but understanding the lingo of Mahjong takes skill and practice. The winning combinations also change yearly.
