SEVIERVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) — A Texas nonprofit found themselves in East Tennessee Friday, helping a disabled veteran repair his roof.

The nonprofit, Guns to Hammers, helps veterans fix and update their homes to be more ADA-compliant to allow them to live more independent lives. Retired Navy veteran Steve Pappas said it is a testament to the way veterans take care of each other.

“Just seeing my brothers, my sisters here in community and military, it's a true blessing,” said Pappas.

Guns to Hammers founder JR Smith said this job is a way to give back to the community that has supported their nonprofit from the beginning, partnering with Tennessee Legend Distillery.
