This is an aggressive effort to stop impaired drivers before they can cause harm, according to CHP.
The Holiday Enforcement Period begins on Friday at 6:01 p.m. and will go on until Monday at 11:59 p.m. This HEP coincides with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's "Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over" campaign, which goes through September 1.
"If you choose to drive under the influence, expect to be stopped, arrested and held accountable," CHP commissioner Sean Duryvee said.
During last year's HEP, 61 lives were lost, with 21 of those being linked to impaired driving, CHP said.
