Cinema 21, the movie theater that’s been a mainstay for Portland cinephiles for decades, is celebrating its centennial in September with events, a film festival, an appearance by an Oscar-winning filmmaker and more.
The Cinema 21 Centennial Celebration and Film Festival kicks off Friday, Sept. 19, with an opening night event that includes a cocktail hour featuring beer, wine, soft drinks, cake, gelato and “light bites”; a raffle, guest speakers, and an auction to support the theater; and a special presentation.
Tickets for the opening night event are $21, and will be on sale soon.
Other events scheduled for the celebration include a Sept. 28 special appearance by filmmaker Sean Baker , whose movie “Anora” dominated the 2025 Oscars , winning awards for best picture and best actres
