In honor of the upcoming International Overdose Awareness Day on August 31st, dozens of Anchorage community members gather to help build Naloxone kits for communities across Alaska.

Theresa Welton with the Alaska Department of Health exclaims, "The first year we distributed about 1,800 kits statewide, and now, like I said, we are at 46,000 last year."

Just one of these kits can equal a life saved.

The Alaska Department of Public Health told Your Alaska Link that Anchorage has a statistically high mortality rate with overdoses. They share their hope that getting these kits into the right hands will help lower that mortality rate.
