ATLANTA — Rainbow crosswalks are at risk in parts of the nation, but Atlanta’s iconic intersection at 10th and Piedmont is not going anywhere.

In Georgia's neighboring state, Florida, the state department is targeting several cities to remove their rainbow crosswalks and intersections, or they could face funding being stripped away, according to a report from the Associated Press.

In July, the U.S. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy l aunched a roadway safety campaign, stating, "Roads are for safety, not political messages or artwork."

Soon after Duffy's letter, state officials ordered the overnight removal of a rainbow crosswalk that was outside the Pulse Nightclub, where 49 people were killed and dozens of others were injured in a 2016 mass shooting, according to the Associated
