A Kansas City-area teen will represent Missouri in the National Civics Bee this November in Washington, D.C. Konnor Chipps, who was an eighth grader in the Ray-Pec School District when he won the state’s first-ever Missouri Civics Bee, impressed judges with a proposal to improve MoDOT’s winter road maintenance.
Chipps told Missourinet his research topic came to mind during wintertime last year.
“About January or February, can’t quite remember,” said Chipps-we, of course, had that ginormous snowstorm and all the roads were covered in snow, and you couldn’t get anywhere. So, I just had to write my essay about just kind of how we lack the funds, the effort, the labor, pretty much everything on taking care of roadways, especially in Missouri.”
Chipps told Missourinet that his research cente
