CLARKSBURG, W.Va. (WV News) — On Friday when the sun was at its highest, friends and family from all over North Central West Virginia and beyond gathered in Clarksburg to celebrate Italian American heritage, culture and tradition.
The 46th West Virginia Italian Heritage Festival officially began following the coronation of Regina Maria XLVI.
"It is always a good day to be Italian, but today feels especially more meaningful," said Francesca Aloi, the newly crowned queen. "Today we are gathered at one of the greatest feasts of all, a celebration of heritage, of family, of faith, and of community."
Being crowned Regina Maria is one of the highest honors of the Italian heritage festival, something Francesca has dreamed about since her childhood.
