FAIRMONT, W.Va. (WBOY) — In honor of its 150th anniversary and to welcome its newest element, Woodlawn Cemetery held a dedication ceremony on Friday.

In conjunction with Woodlawn Cemetery, the city of Fairmont and graphic design students at Fairmont State University, walking signs were created and placed throughout the cemetery to tell the stories of notable individuals buried within and their impact on the community.

The idea of incorporating the signs came from a community member who often walks through the cemetery. After sharing his idea with Woodland Cemetery board president, Dr. Raymond Alvarez, the idea was then passed on to the city of Fairmont.

Through the Cultivate West Virginia grant, $1500 was matched by $1500 of private contributions to place 16 historic markers throughout
