BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (WBKO) - A burn ban has been issued in Warren and other surrounding counties.
City and county firefighters are warning residents that the lack of rain has primed the region for events such as brushfires to the point where even something as seemingly innocuous as tossing a lit cigarette butt out the window could lead to catastrophic consequences.
“The lack of rain and the dry temperatures obviously dry everything out. Grass, leaves, everything,” said Bowling Green Fire Department chief Michael Cornwell. “What may start out as a small fire with just the slightest bit of wind can really spread fast and move rapidly before we can respond and extinguish the fire.”
As we head into Labor Day weekend, firefighters are also reminding area residents that the burn ban does apply
