FORT VALLEY, Ga. — Fort Valley has placed a temporary moratorium on "flash parties" and large gatherings without proper permits, requiring written approval for events with 25 or more attendees.

The new rule, which took effect Friday, mandates that event organizers obtain written approval from either the police chief or city administrator before hosting gatherings that exceed the 25-person limit. City officials say the measure is designed to ensure public safety.

Jesse Augustus, a lifelong Fort Valley resident who has organized community events, supports gatherings that bring people together.

"Let it be something event-wise that can bring for, to warm the city to bring other venues here that I think that would be beneficial," Augustus said.
