SULPHUR, La. (KPLC) - Alarms went off around an already existing state of emergency in Sulphur this month after a pressure drop in the salt dome.

The Louisiana Department of Natural Resources (LDNR) says it believes it’s under control, but the area has been under a state of emergency for two years . Then-Gov. John Bell Edwards first signed the declaration, and it has been reupdated every month since then, continuing into Gov. Jeff Landry’s term.

Just two weeks ago, the pressure dropped in cavern 2-4-5. The mega cavern was originally 3 separate caverns, 2,4, and 5, but they merged walls over the years.
