DALLAS — Lawmakers are trying to stop a brewing water war in our state.

And it all starts with studying some aquifers in East Texas.

At the center is Dallas hedge fund manager Kyle Bass, whose plan to pump 15 billion gallons of water a year from those East Texas aquifers to other parts of the state led to the proposed legislation, sparked lawsuits and packed hearings aimed at stopping him.

East Texas Republican state Rep. Cody Harris, R-District 8, authored House Bill 27, which requires a groundwater study of the aquifers found underneath the Neches and Trinity Valleys Groundwater Conservation District.

Harris says the state needs to know exactly how much water they’re dealing with, particularly in the Carrizo-Wilcox Aquifer.
