Police are on the scene at the main library on the UGA campus in respond to a reported armed. At this time, evidence suggests a hoax.

A police alert has been issued for the University of Georgia campus in Athens after a report of an armed shooter in the area of the main library.

First responders are on the scene and residents are advised to avoid the area. More information will be posted at emergency.uga.edu as it becomes available.

Police ask that you refrain from calling emergency numbers for information.

The main library is located along South Jackson Street.
