UNADILLA TOWNSHIP, MI – A 22-year-old Ohio man was hospitalized after his small single-engine plane crashed and caught fire Thursday in a field in Livingston County, according to police.

Authorities were called to Richmond Field shortly before 4 p.m. in Unadilla Township after local dispatch received a crash detection notification from an iPhone and calls from nearby residents, township police said in a Facebook post on Friday, Aug. 29.

The pilot was found outside the aircraft with what police described as “significant injuries” and taken to the University of Michigan Hospital.

The 22-year-old had been flying to Toledo from Charlevoix when the plane crashed, police said. The cause of the crash remained unknown and was still under investigation with the township police, the Federal Avi
