BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) - Addison County’s embattled state’s attorney wants the drunk driving charge against her dropped, but the state says no way.

Eva Vekos was arrested last year when police say she showed signs of impairment after showing up at a crime scene.

As Seven Days first reported, Vekos filed a motion to dismiss the DUI charge, arguing that she’s already regained her driving privileges and been sanctioned by the Supreme Court, and further punishment would be “superfluous.”

But the attorney general’s office says Vekos should be treated like every other defendant and that to dismiss the case would “disintegrate” the public’s trust in the legal system.
