BAXTER — Beckett Miller didn’t just pick up where he left off last year — he destroyed it.

During last year’s Section 8-3A Final, which was run on the same course as Friday, Aug. 29’s Run for the Melon, Miller ran a 17:10. On Friday, the Brainerd Warriors sophomore ran a 16:59.7 to place second and lead the Warrior boys to first in their season-opening event.

“Honestly, I put a lot of work in over the summer, but I wasn’t sure how today was going to go,” Miller said. “I just knew that whatever today was, it was going to be a good start to my season. I’m happy with how it went.

“If I’m being really honest, I didn’t have much of a game plan. I was expecting kids to go out a little bit harder. I was going to let them go and maybe catch them later on, but they just brought me with them.”
