ROANE COUNTY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – The Midland Trail Patriots started their season strong Friday night, defeating the Clay County Panthers 41-13 on the road in a Class AA matchup.
The Patriots (1-0) controlled the game from start to finish, building a steady lead across all four quarters.
Midland Trail struck first with a touchdown in each of the opening two periods to take a 14-0 lead into halftime.
Clay County (0-1) managed to break through with scores in the third and fourth quarters, but the Patriots answered each time. Midland Trail posted 13 points in the third and sealed the win with 14 more in the final period.
With the victory, Midland Trail moves to 1-0 and will return home to host the Poca Dots next Friday in Hico. Clay County will look to rebound when it travels to face the Buf
