Iowa City West’s quarterback role was clouded with uncertainty entering its season opener against rival Iowa City High on Aug. 29. But as the Trojans rolled out their offense in the first quarter, the skies cleared and the answer peeked through.
For the first time in four years, the Trojans handed the reins to a new field general after the graduation of Jack Wallace. That changing of the guard came in the form of quarterbacks Reece Wheeler and Mikey Moody, who both steered Iowa City West to a 30-0 shutout road win in the Battle of the Boot.
It was Iowa City West’s first win over Iowa City High since October 2020.
