SIKESTON, Mo. (KFVS) - Friday, Sikeston city leaders broke ground on a new fire station that is five years in the making.

The current Fire Station #2 has two major issues, leading to the need for a replacement structure.

Sikeston mayor, Greg Turnbow says it’s time for a new fire station, “It’s been five years working on this and to finally get to this point. I am not saying things move fast, but the old facility that we currently have has gotten to a little bit of disarray, so this station here will have all of the housing for all the firemen that will be staying overnight.”

Turnbow says upgrades include larger living quarters, more recreation areas, and says there will be an option to drop off an unwanted child and remain anonymous.
