The Compass Academy football team couldn’t have asked for a better start to its 2025 season.

The only thing that stopped the Cougars was a two-hour rain and lightning delay before the game as Compass Academy ended up defeating Sterling City 49-7 Friday at Ratliff Stadium.

After the weather cleared up, Compass Academy wasted almost no time in getting started, building a 21-0 lead by the end of the first quarter.

With the win, the Cougars (1-0) avenged last year’s 41-38 loss to the Eagles (0-1).

“I’m just proud of our kids and their efforts,” Compass Academy head coach Boe Smith said. “I loved the enthusiasm. They got after it on every play. That’s what we’ve been preaching over and over again since last fall. the kids did a good job of executing.”
