DICKINSON — The Dickinson Mavericks had chances to win their season-opening game against the Fargo South Bruins all night. The smallest they trailed was three, which came in the second quarter, and made it a one-score game late in the fourth. But a late turnover squandered that opportunity, leading to DHS falling 34-21 to its out-of-conference foe on a crisp Friday night inside the Henry Biesiot Activities Center.

“We talk a lot to the kids about staying in the center area where we can't take the great plays, have us get ecstatic and figure out how to play football.
