Pebble Hills opened up the 2025 high school football season with a 21-12 win against Canutillo at the SAC 1, in a battle of top 10 teams in El Paso.

Canutillo was ranked No. 8 entering the game Friday Aug. 29. Pebble Hills was ranked No. 3. Pebble Hills led 21-0 at halftime but Canutillo rallied in the second half to close the gap.

The game was delayed by lightning for nearly two hours. Pebble Hills got two touchdown passes from Joe Fernandez to Bailey to take the 21-0 halftime lead.

The Spartans avenged a 7-0 loss to Canutillo last year. Pebble Hills visits Midland High on Friday, Sept. 5 and Canutillo is at home against Montwood.
