According to the Umbrella Project, a nonprofit based in Thurmont that organizes outdoor excursions for young adults who are grieving the loss of a close loved one, its journey on the Appalachian Trail for its early summer hike was nothing short of remarkable. Over a few intense days, the hike’s participants faced rugged terrain, unpredictable weather, and — most importantly — grief in all its forms, says the nonprofit.
The trail demanded strength, but the group brought something even more powerful: vulnerability, according to the nonprofit, adding that the participants hiked, they cried, they laughed and they held space for one another in the quiet moments.
