There are plenty of top-level teams across the Hickory area that will be competing for playoff spots and possibly regional and state championships in October and November. Here are 10 teams to watch as the fall sports season unfolds.

Hickory soccer

For the most part, Hickory is another year older and another year better after graduating just five seniors from last year’s team.

Braeden McCourt is leading the team in goals again this year with seven through the first four matches, but the Red Tornadoes are not a one-man show.

Sophomore Nathan Perez has two goals, and four assists and junior Ford Jarrett has been solid in goal against a grueling slate of nonconference opponents.

Hickory also has plenty of savvy play and experience that hasn’t shown up on the stat sheet yet. S
