UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS, Ohio -- University Heights will mark the 100th anniversary of the opening of its city hall building with a ceremony on Sept. 12.
Mayor Michael Dylan-Brennan will give remarks at 2 p.m. on the lawn in front of the building. After remarks are given, refreshments will be made available and, from 3-4 p.m., residents can take a small-group tour of the building.
According to a city release, the then-Village of University Heights laid the cornerstone for the iconic building at the corner of Warrensville Center and Silsby roads on Sept. 12, 1925. At the time, the village had just 600 residents.
When the building opened, the village had only recently -- on April 1, 1925 -- made an official name change, from the village of Idlewood to the village of University Heights.
