While many see the Labour Day long weekend as one of the last chances to enjoy the summer weather away from work, it's also a reminder of the victories achieved by organized labour and the challenges that still exist today.

The Thunder Bay and District Labour Council will be hosting its annual Labour Day Picnic on Monday at the Current River Park from noon to 4 p.m. Everyone is welcome to attend for some food, music, and fun activities.

But Carlos Santander-Maturana, Thunder Bay and District Labour Council president, said it's a significant day for all workers.

"It's a closure of the summer and a time to reflect on our gains and the challenges labour are still facing, organized and non-organized," he said. "For us, Labour Day is a time to reflect."
