In the days after Hurricane Katrina, the streets were quiet and blanketed in an apocalyptic haze of gray and brown. The floodwaters washed away not only a vibrant culture, but the literal color that New Orleans was known for. What is gave us back was a blank canvas in return.

“It’s such a New Orleans story. It’s so connected to the way we have always done things in this city. We turn negative into positives,” said artist Brandan Odums, known as BMIKE Advertisement

Where others saw as an eyesore, Odums saw as an opportunity in Algiers at the old DeGaulle Manor apartments.

“We turn ugly into beauty into beauty. Like, it’s part of what we do naturally all the time."
