GLYNN COUNTY, Ga. — A man in Glynn County has been arrested after police say he shot at officers several times at a motel in Brunswick early Saturday morning, prompting a standoff.

Shortly after midnight, the Glynn County Police Department said patrol officers responded to Motel 6 located at 3040 Scarlett St. to do a welfare check on "an alleged victim of domestic violence."

While checking on the victim, GCPD said the man, identified as 58-year-old David Kevin Griffis, fired several shots at officers using a handgun.

GCPD said three officers returned fire, as Griffis retreated into a motel room where he locked himself inside.

"Fortunately, none of the officers from GCPD were injured in the exchange," GCPD said in a Facebook post .
