An emergency closure was ordered on Rufford Ford in December 2022

People living near a Nottinghamshire ford that went viral over failed attempts to cross it fear their road becoming a "death trap" again if it reopens. Nottinghamshire County Council is still considering what to do about Rufford Ford, which was closed in December 2022 at the request of Nottinghamshire Police due to safety fears.

The previous Conservative administration of the county council were months away from recommending a permanent closure of Rufford Ford. Yet since Reform UK took control of the authority in May, there have been suggestions that options to safely reopen the ford are being considered.
