If you like these columns and my previous work in television news, you can give a lot of the credit to Northwestern University, my alma mater. If you don’t like my work, you can give a lot of the blame to Northwestern.

Located in Evanston, Illinois, and nearby Chicago, I received my bachelor’s and master’s degrees in journalism from Northwestern’s Medill School of Journalism. That’s where I truly learned how to write and report. The biggest emphasis was on being accurate. Factual errors were not tolerated.

We were also required to take courses in political science, history and English. It was a pretty intense program, but it made me a better journalist and a better person.
