FLINT, MI - A church is asking for the community’s help after an early morning fire caused major damage.

Flint City Council Member Tonya Burns took to Facebook Live on Saturday morning, standing in front of Saint Mark Baptist Church of Flint, 3020 DuPont St.

In the video, Pastor Kevin Thompson said someone entered the church around 2:30 a.m. Saturday morning and set a fire.

Thompson and Burns asked for able bodied people to come out and help board up the windows. Burns walked around the back of the church, showing broken windows and black, smoke-damaged walls.

“The damage is extensive,” Burns said, walking through the church.

The floors appeared to be wet with water and covered with dirt and debris.
