MIDLAND The UTPB football team began the season on a high note with a 34-14 win against No. 5 Central Oklahoma Saturday at Astound Broadband Stadium.

The Falcons (1-0) got their first victory against a team from the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletic Association.

Playing in his first game at UTPB, quarterback Kanon Gibson went 17-of-30 for 189 yards passing and threw two touchdowns.

Traylen Suel had seven receptions for 95 yards while Gibson rushed for 78 yards on 20 carries.

Central Oklahoma quarterback Jett Huff went 14-of-34 for 169 yards and threw two interceptions.

Ashton Schumann had three receptions for 45 yards to lead the Bronchos.

William Mason rushed for 107 yards on nine carries.

The Falcons will next face Adams State at 7 p.m. Sept. 6 in Alamosa, Colo.
