MURRAY – Pending eventual approval by the Kentucky Council on Postsecondary Education, Murray State University has selected its founding dean for a school of veterinary medicine.

Murray State has been pursuing its goal of establishing what would be the first vet school in Kentucky for the last couple of years, and the General Assembly passed a bill in the 2025 legislative session that allows the university to propose a doctorate of veterinary medicine (DVM) to the CPE. During the MSU Board of Regents’ quarterly meeting Friday, the board voted to appoint Dr. Laura Ken Hoffman, currently head of the Department of Veterinary Technology and Pre-Veterinary Medicine, as the prospective vet school’s first dean.
