WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) — A south Wichita church turned into a gathering place Saturday for people impacted by overdose, addiction and homelessness, bringing together food, music and direct services for those in need.
Search and Rescue Outreach Ministries hosted the event at 1515 E. Harry, offering free meals, live music, prayer, haircuts and a mobile shower. Dozens of local agencies joined in, providing Narcan, information on substance abuse and access to detox services.
Vice President Linda Orben said the idea came after she noticed Kansas was absent from the map of International Overdose Awareness Day events.
“There were events up and down the East Coast, up and down the West, and nothing in the Midwest was represented. We said, you know, we need to change that,” Orben said.
