WOODVILLE, Texas — US 69 northbound and southbound south of Seneca Rd was shut down Saturday night due to a large fire ignited at Local Tire Disposal in Woodville.
The fire was started Saturday afternoon after a lightning strike according to John Settlocker, Emergency Management Coordinator for Tyler County.
Settlocker says that the fire consumed about two acers, burning mostly tires.
"It was a tire fire and then it just kind of developed from there, but once we had boots on the ground we can kind of size it up and then that's when we started calling in more agencies," said Bradley McClendon with Woodville Fire Department.
In total, 42 agencies from all over Southeast Texas assisted in battling the flames.
