KNOX COUNTY, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) -- A Washington man is now behind bars and facing multiple charges after leading police on a short pursuit Friday night.

Just after 11:30 p.m., a black Jeep occupied by Ian Stewart, 40 of Washington was stopped for disregarding a traffic on State Road 550.

According to a press release from Indiana State Police Evansville District, Stewart showed signs of impairment and was instructed to exit his vehicle, so field sobriety tests could be conducted. He refused. A trooper tried to open the driver's door, but Stewart put the vehicle in drive and fled south on State Road 67.

Stewart then exited the highway and drove into a bean field, exited the vehicle and laid down to hide from law enforcement. Officers set up a perimeter and used a PA system to order him to e
