WEST LAFAYETTE — On a Purdue football opening day all about new beginnings, how fitting for Ryan Browne to reintroduce himself in a dramatic fashion.

The third-year quarterback had never before “earned” the starting quarterback job. It had been loaned to him for safekeeping while the true starter mended. Since returning from his temporary transfer to North Carolina in the spring, Browne methodically built his case to lead the Boilermakers into a new era.
