MIDDLETOWN, Conn. — Improving school security in districts across Connecticut is being prioritized by state officials as the new academic year begins.

Those representing the state Department of Emergency Services and Public Protection shared information Friday regarding a range of ongoing initiatives aimed at helping schools improve security.

Personnel with DESPP’s Division of Emergency Management and Homeland Security work year-round with school districts to help them enhance their safety and security.

“This isn’t about just reacting to threats, but it’s about taking a comprehensive approach to create safe places where children learn,” DESPP Commissioner Ronald Higgins said.
