Undrafted out of Washington in 1978, Moon dominated the Canadian Football League first, winning five consecutive Grey Cups with the Edmonton Eskimos from 1978-1982 before entering the NFL with the Houston Oilers in 1984 at age 28.
He quickly became a prolific passer, leading the league in yards twice (4,689 in 1990, 4,690 in 1991) and earning Offensive Player of the Year in 1990 with 33 touchdowns.
