A man was fatally shot Thursday afternoon in Long Beach in what authorities are calling an ongoing homicide investigation.

Police said officers responded at approximately 4:23 p.m. to the 200 block of W Broadway, near Lincoln Park, after receiving reports of a shooting. When they arrived, they found a male adult victim suffering from a gunshot wound. The Long Beach Fire Department rushed him to a nearby hospital, but he later died from his injuries.

Homicide detectives said preliminary evidence suggests the suspect approached the victim, fired at him, and then quickly fled the scene. Investigators have not released a possible motive, and the circumstances leading up to the shooting remain under review.
