Since Delta Health announced it will indefinitely shutter its labor and delivery unit in mid-August, a petition for reconsideration has garnered just over 2,500 signatures.

Four days after the announcement, hospital staff and community members attended a public board meeting to express their concerns and frustrations.

Still, Delta Health Chief Executive Officer Jonathan Cohee said the decision is final, and a petition won’t change the factors that contributed to its closure.

“You can put a 30,000-signature petition in front of us, and it doesn’t change the fact that over the course of the last four to five years, people just don’t use us,” he said.

Cohee did add that their long-term goal is to reopen the unit, but the timeline is unclear.
