G ilbert residents still reeling from a 95% wastewater rate hike may soon be facing a 25% rate hike for their drinking water.
In a council study session last week, Gilbert Water Manager Rebecca Hamill said that the rate hike appears needed as the result of the town’s biannual utility rate analysis and adjustments.
Starting in 2022, the town began reviewing its water, trash, wastewater and stormwater funds and rates every two years to assess its ability to cover utility operational costs and capital improvement projects.
Last year, those studies resulted in wastewater and environmental compliance rate increases that took effect in April – including a 95% hike in wastewater rates.
This year, the town is reviewing its potable water and trash utility rates.
