Like all high school football teams in August, Texas City was ready to hit someone wearing colors other than its own.
Once the ball was kicked off on Saturday night, Stings coach Shone Evans liked much of what he saw in his team’s 49-0 romp over an outmanned Houston Sterling squad at HISD’s Barnett Stadium.
“To play against somebody else, that’s the one thing you like,’’ Evans said. “This gives us a base just so we know what we need to work on.
“You go against each other, the defense knows the calls, the offense knows the defense’s calls, so it’s kind of hard to gauge. But to go out against somebody else … the kids played hard.’’
Texas City got it done on both sides of the ball.
