Imay talk to politicians and community leaders for a living, but I’ve got nothing on my mother.
She’s probably better known by local movers and shakers than I am.
Scratch the word “probably.”
Typically, the first thing I tend to hear from a state lawmaker or City Council member is “How’s your mom?”
That’s because when she retired from the factory floor of what used to be called “P. Lorillard” on East Market Street in Greensboro, she got busy.
If it wasn’t a City Council meeting, it was Concerned Citizens of Northeast Greensboro. Or the NAACP. Or a candidate forum. Or any number of town halls and rallies about any number of issues that she deemed important.
That’s why some people describe me as “Allen Johnson at the paper.” But a lot more simply call me “Doris Johnson’s son.”
