The University of Hawaii women’s volleyball team is experiencing growing pains in its season-opening tournament.
From the brink of sweeping Marquette on Friday night, the Rainbow Wahine have now lost six consecutive sets after Utah State swept Hawaii 25-19, 25-19, 25-23 on Saturday in the Hawaiian Airlines Wahine Volleyball Classic at Bankoh Arena at Stan Sheriff Center.
Tierney Barlow led three Aggies in double figures with 14 kills and Loryn Helgesen and Mara Stiglic had 12 apiece for Utah State (1-1), which lost in five sets in its tournament opener.
Cha’lei Reid had 11 kills and Stella Adeyemi added seven kills in 11 swings and hit .636 to lead Hawaii, which dropped to 0-2 before a crowd of 3,968.
UH hit .278 in the match but couldn’t slow down the Aggies, who hit .357 with 48 kill
