Labor Day is coming up, and this year lands on Monday, Sept. 1.

The federal holiday is observed each year on the first Monday of September and serves as a celebration of the achievements of America's labor movement.

Labor Day recognizes the achievements of the U.S. labor movement in the late 19th century. During this time, American workers advocated for better working conditions, reasonable hours and fair wages. The movement led to a to federal holiday dedicated to the members of trade and labor unions.
