Anti-social behaviour at two city centre graveyards has led to their closure in the evening.

“Cave raves” have allegedly been taking place at both the Old Calton Burial Ground and the New Calton Burial Ground in Edinburgh.

Officers have had to attend disturbances on several occasions according to The National. This has led to Edinburgh Council stepping in and closing the A-listed sites after dark.

Youths have been gathering in the spots and partaking in underage drinking as well as drug-taking. The Scotsman reports locals and visitors have also been abused by the yobs.

In response to a Freedom of Information request from the Scotsman, officers cited freeing up Police Scotland as a reason behind the decision.
