RACINE, W.Va. –The United Mine Workers of America is gearing up for its 87th Labor Day Picnic on Monday.

UMWA District 17 Vice President Brian Lacy said during a recent appearance on MetroNews Midday that the picnic will be held at John Slack Memorial Park in Racine, located on Coal River Road.

Lacy said the event is for everyone.

“Whether you wear a suit, coveralls, t-shirt to work you’re welcome to come over and enjoy Labor Day,” he said.

He said individuals will experience a pig roast, a pool, entertainment, speakers, ice cream, a cash drawing, and an inflatable obstacle course for the kids.

Lacy said Labor Day is a reminder for how hard coal miners, teachers, healthcare workers, delivery drivers, and others have worked in order to have good working conditions.
