The massive Macomb County Jail project is on time and under budget so far, and much more visually evident than it was several months ago.

Joe Asperger of Plante Moran Realpoint, the project manager, told the county Board of Commissioners last week the $229-million project is progressing so that it remains slated to be done by early 2027. It was approved in July 2023 and is scheduled for completion in 2027.

“The project does continue to remain on time and within budget,” Asperger said Aug. 19 at a committee meeting. “The project financially and schedule-wise is in good shape.”

Brian Wilke of Plant Moran said a key requirement for the project – spending all of the $130 million in federal American Rescue Plan dollars – by the end of 2026 in on track.

“We’re trending toward that,” he said.
